Solar Powered Mobile Power Bank Systems
Original Research
The objective of this research is to design a Solar Powered Portable Power Bank for mobile phone using sunlight as its ultimate power, which can be used effectively during disaster events. It has in-built solar panel which converts the solar energy to electrical energy. The charge is then transferred to a battery for storage of charge for further use, with the battery having a microcontroller indicating the percent of charge present in the battery. The battery is connected to a charging circuit having an USB port as output to the respective Mobile phones.

New Methodology for the Prediction of Motor Starting Effect on Bus Voltages of Interconnected Power Systems
Original Research
A new methodology is proposed in this paper capable of predicting the impact of induction motor load starting on the bus voltages of an interconnected power system. The profile of the voltage sag is predicted for each bus, which is used to improve the power quality of a system. The methodology is investigated with the use of a four bus, as well as fourteen bus IEEE interconnected system. Mathematical and simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness and applicability of the proposed methodology for the application.

A New Single Source Topology Four Quadrant DC-DC SEPIC Converter
Original Research
The DC-DC converter find a wide scope in industries, telecommunication sectors, power electronics area, etc. Nowadays bi-directional converters have a higher end over them since the energy from the load during regenerative braking is fed back to the source, thus obtaining energy efficient system. A single topology that can provide Buck-Boost operation with positive output having four quadrant operations is not available in literature. A common limitation of power coupling effect in some known multiple-input dc-dc converters has been addressed in many literatures. In this paper, a new single-input DC-DC four quadrant Sepic converter has been developed to provide four quadrant operation of a high frequency dc-dc converter having one supply source and proper control of the converter. The combined topology has been analyzed and studied by spice simulation and Tecplot.

Assessment of Energy Losses and Cost Implications in the Nigerian Distribution Network
Original Research
Energy shortages is the major challenge facing the industrial sector in Nigeria. This paper assessed the energy shortages due to technical losses in the Nigerian distribution network and the cost implications. The study was carried out based on network data collected over the period 2011-2015 from three electricity distribution companies (DisCos) drawn from the three major industrial cities of Nigeria. These data were simulated on the Electrical Transient Analysis program (ETAP) Version 12.6. The calculated energy losses for these cities for the said period are 108,959.87 MWH, 149,256 MWH and 72,743.08 MWH respectively. The corresponding revenue losses are 2,434,164,012, 3,538,754,758.8 and 1,699,751,530.1 respectively. The paper suggested remedial measures to reduce energy losses, mitigate losses arising from unannounced electricity cuts as well as achieve a more efficient and reliable electricity distribution network. The outcome of this research provides a data bank for policy makers and future researchers in the areas of electricity generation, transmission and distribution.
