Sensing Technologies for Monitoring Serious Mental Illness

Mental illness is often known as mental disorder. It can be defined as a behavioral or mental state that can cause some significant amount of distress or impairment of personal functioning. It is a global issue. Most people in the world will be affected by mental or neurological disorder at some point in their lives. Around 450 million individuals have been affected from mental illness. Wearable devices and smartphones may soon be able to help people who suffer from depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, suicidal thoughts and other disorders by monitoring their activity physical symptoms and social interactions for early warning signs of trouble. In this report we have described how sensing technologies can be useful to monitor and diagnose patients and their behavior. So that it would be easy to detect mental illness.

Research on Prosumer Combining Household Electricity, Electric Vehicle Home Charging and Photovoltaic Power Generation

Nowadays, the situation of environmental pollution is increasing, energy is getting more and more tight, and traditional fossil energy can no longer meet people's needs. Solar energy has received extensive attention because of its clean and safe characteristics. This paper combines the three-point practical model of photovoltaic(PV) power generation, the Bernoulli model of electric vehicle(EV) home charging and the Weibull distribution model of household electricity to form the Prosumer probability distribution model, and analyze the daily power fluctuations in different scenarios. Then based on the IEEE33 node system, considering the access of the PV system, the influence of the Prosumer access on the voltage offset and network loss of the distribution network node at different times is analyzed. The results show that the family access to the PV system can effectively reduce the voltage offset and the total network loss of the line.

Audio Compression Using DWT and RLE Techniques

The growth of the cellular technology and wireless networks all over the world has increased the demand for digital information by manifold. This massive demand poses difficulties in handling huge amounts of data that need to be stored and transferred. To overcome this problem we can compress the information by removing the redundancies present in it. Redundancies are the major source of generating errors and noisy signals. Coding in MATLAB helps in analyzing compression of audio signals with varying bit rate and remove errors and noisy signals from the audio signals. The audio signal’s bit rate can also be reduced to remove errors and noisy signals which are suitable for remote broadcast lines, studio links, satellite transmission of high quality audio and voice over internet. This paper focuses on the audio compression process and its analysis using DWT and RLE Techniques through MATLAB by which processed audio signal can be heard with clarity and in the noiseless mode at the receiver end.

Design and Implementation of Remote RFI Monitoring System for Ghana Radio Telescope Observatory-Nkutunse

Radio telescope receivers are sensitive instruments designed to detect very weak signals radiating from astronomical sources. These signals travel several light years and are sometimes drain by the interference of man-made and terrestrials RFI’s. This work aims at the design of a cost-effective Radio Frequency Interference Monitoring System (RFIMS) for the Ghana Radio Astronomy Observatory at Nkutunse. The design of automated RFIMS was constructed with a log-periodic antenna for receiving the electric field being radiated, Low Noise Amplifier (LNA) to amplify the weak signals for detectability, an attenuator to control the high power interfering signals, a filter to pass frequency of interest and a spectrum analyzer as backend. Ideally, telescopes are supposed to be sited at a radio quiet environment. The implementation is to continually monitor the radio space for potential interference at the telescope site for remedial actions since it has become a global candidate site by location and necessitation.

Design of a Standalone Photovoltaic System for a Typical Household around Dessie City-Ethiopia

Standalone, or off-grid, solar power systems consist of solar panels, charge controller, inverter and a battery bank. They are typically used in rural areas and regions where there is no access to the utility grid. They may also be appropriate where the grid is somewhat close to the site, but expensive to bring in - for example, across a neighbor's property. A number of systems have been installed with battery back-up where the grid is available but where the homeowner has experienced unreliable power in the past or believes that he/she will be subject to power outages in the future. This research deals with the design of a simple solar photovoltaic system for the house located around Dessie. Based on the house annual electric demand the photovoltaic (PV) system is selected and designed. The general over view of solar PV system starting from demand to design are explained in this research. The size of the PV panel, battery, inverter and cable are selected. Prices for electricity in US dollar’s/kWh also are calculated.
