Design and Development of an IoT & Raspberry Pi Based Smart Mirror

There is never an end to the devices that can be made smarter and smarter with the help of the adequate technology. There are a lot of smart display devices but mirrors provide an interactive environment while displaying these information’s. This paper presents the design and the development of a Smart mirror using raspberry pi with some additional features which provides face recognition for security and smart unlocking process. The contents are displayed on an LED monitor who is enclosed in a wooden frame and covered with a sheet of reflective one way mirror. The mirror provides basic detail like time, news details, weather of a city and display current message. All the computing is done with the help of a raspberry pi.

Coordinated Control Method for AC/DC Distribution Network Based on Four-port Energy Router

With the large increase in DC load penetration rate of renewable energy and electric vehicles, the traditional AC distribution network has been unable to meet the requirements of load transfer and reliability, and the research on AC/DC distribution network has developed rapidly. This paper proposes a new coordinated control method for AC/DC distribution network, which aims to solve the coordination problem in various states of AC/DC distribution network. Based on the analysis of AC/DC distribution network characteristics, based on the characteristics of four-port energy router, an AC/DC distribution network model based on four-port energy router is established. Taking full advantage of the convenient operation and high reliability of the four-port energy router, the coordinated control method of the AC/DC distribution network in the normal working mode, operation mode switching and key equipment operation is proposed respectively, which can realize flexible access to the distribution network of renewable energy and DC load, comprehensively improve regional stability, and has high application value.

Precision Farming Model for Optimum Catfish Production

Fish farming has been identified as a great source of animal protein for the large percentage of the world population and Nigeria, a country with over 170million population is not left behind. The level of productivity of catfish farm is determined by production knowledge and skills, suboptimal stocking and overstocking, poor fish population control methods, low feeding rate, water temperature, water quality, and health status of the fishes under culture. Combination of these factors influence the ability to maintain ethically sound, productive, and environmental friendly production of fish. In other to achieve optimum production of catfish, a solution through the use of wireless sensors was deployed to address some of the problems of low yield. The approach used to track optimum temperature through the deployed wireless sensor and administer feed to the fish at that particular temperature of the day. The study shows that the deployed system helped the farmers to design a feeding pattern that supports optimum growth of fish under culture by achieving a lower Feed Conversion Ratio (FCR) of 0.62 in the experimental pond as against 0.67 in the control pond, the solution provide a platform through which farmers can have access to the status of the pond from anywhere in the world.

Quantum Science and Quantum Technology: Progress and Challenges

Quantum computing has the potential to offer new capabilities and quantum computers will achieve breakthroughs in finance, cybersecurity, medical science and healthcare, defense and military missions, etc. Progress in quantum science and quantum technology are introduced in this paper that specifically include quantum computers, quantum devices, quantum processing units (QPU), quantum artificial intelligence (QAI), quantum machine learning (QML), quantum cloud computing, quantum network and communication, quantum teleportation, quantum experiment satellite, quantum cryptography, and quantum key distribution (QKD). Some challenges are also presented.
